Thrive Antenatal Education Package
Session One : The Fourth TrimesterAntenatal Breastfeeding, Sleep and Settling Education
Many parents tell us they wish they had learned more about breastfeeding, sleep, and settling before their baby arrived.
Session One is led by our experienced GP Lactation Consultants, Colleen van Laar and Lisa Collins from Newcastle Mums and Bubs. The breastfeeding section discusses reasons to breastfeed, how breastfeeding works, the practicalities of breastfeeding and lots of common questions. The sleep and settling section covers normal newborn sleep and behaviours as well as tips and tricks to help settle your baby.
If you are not local to the Newcastle area or prefer to learn from home, our webinar version of this class is a great alternative. Visit our Webinar page to find out more.
Session Two: Preparing for Caesarean Birth and Wellbeing in Pregnancy and the Postnatal Period
The first part of session two is for anyone wanting to learn more about having a caesarean birth. This may be planned or simply to feel prepared in case of an unplanned one. Learn what to expect before, during and after surgery, pain relief, recovery and special considerations caring for your baby.
The second half of session two focuses on your psychological wellbeing. Crossing the bridge into parenthood can be a challenging time for many families. Preparing in pregnancy can make the transition feel smoother and more positive. Learn about emotional changes, building your support network, setting boundaries and managing family and friends, common postpartum myths, practical coping strategies and how to recognise when to seek extra help.
Session Two is facilitated by Pip Johnson from Butterfly Women’s Psychology and Kate Drew from Collective Wisdom.
Pip is an experienced psychologist and childbirth educator, while Kate brings a wealth of experience as a midwife, childbirth educator and child and family health nurse.
These group sessions are suitable from around 30 weeks gestation.
We encourage couples to come to both sessions to allow for connection with other parents-to-be.
